The Queen Palm Tree

What is the Queen Palm Tree? The Queen Palm Tree is the type of palm tree found most frequently in urban settings, especially in places such as Florida. The Queen Palm is often planted in dividers between highways and along the roadside to block the glare from the sun.
The Queen Palm can be found in a number of different places -- from Southern Argentina or Brazil all the way to the Carolinas in the United States. While its growth rate for a palm tree is neither fast nor slow, it can get quite call, eventually reaching heights of over fifty feet at maturity.
In addition to its popularity, dispersion, and height, the Queen Palm Tree is also very tolerant when compared to other palm trees. It can live in soils with relatively high concentrations of salt, which is unusual; and it can also live in somewhat acidic conditions. This, perhaps, is the reason why this tree is used in urban settings so frequently. The Queen Palm is also relatively efficient at extracting and storing water. Comparatively speaking, it can live in soils with less water for longer periods of time.
So what does the Queen Palm Tree absolutely require? It requires a significant amount of sunlight and nutrient-rich soil that contains good amounts of both manganese and potassium.
At maturity, the Queen Palm Tree will develop around 15 “leaves,” each of which will be approximately 10 feet in length; and will arch and drape down a few each. Each of these leaves will contain dozens of feathery palms that will also drape down.
Whether you're planting a new tree in your yard or working on an urban renewal project, the Queen Palm is an excellent selection for any location below the Carolinas. Not only is it tolerant of most environments, but it is massive and only requires decent levels of soil nutrients.
